General Overview

In the high altitude mountains of Willanova lie the hardy Siberian Willows, known for their ability to thrive in the sheer cold. These Willows are nearly all fur compared to other counterparts, finding comfort in the ice and snow they call home. Spruce log cabins and warm fairy lights adorn their town of Blissful Mountain, making anyone who visits audibly "awee" at the winter wonderland they've set their gaze on!

Diet and Anatomy

Diet

  • Seasonal Omnivores, meaning what they eat depends on the season!
      • Meats and fruits are common for the warm months
  • Fish (obtained through ice fishing!) and vegetables are cold-season delicacies!

Anatomy

Although other variants of Willow share the commonality of chymos legs, Siberians are the sole subspecies that lack this trait. Over long periods of time, large quantities of chymos can freeze when exposed to such low temperatures, leading to death when it cannot flow through the body. Evolution over millenias removed it from their legs and instead dispersed it into smaller quantities scattered in Siberian anatomy, like their chests!

An evolution that paired to the loss of chymos legs was the addition of hooved feet! These help Siberians to climb the rocky mountain sides, and keep from frozen toes or feet.

Another unique trait to Siberians is their facial evolutions, which consist of a rabbit-like nose and two large tusks. Research points to the difficulties of air intake through chymos in the cold as to why these slit noses came to be! Tusks helped early Siberians eat harder foods that were usually toughened by the cold, as well as assist quadruped Willows carry items when traversing up steep slopes!

  • Siberians are the only Willows that can naturally have a rabbit nose!

Common Culture/Activities

Territory

Siberian Willows primarily live in mountain ledges in the Town of Blissful Mountain. Damaged or sickly spruce trees are used to construct cozy log-cabin structures, which provide a sense of warmth and ease when sleeping for the evenings when the temperature dips. Despite the thick snow, Siberians do what they can to make their small abode cozy, decorating with plenty of weather-resistant fairy lights.

Unlike other territories in Willanova, Blissful Mountain is the more secluded ones geographically, being semi-close only to Sulow Grove. For centuries, travelling up the slippery and frigid mountain slopes was near impossible (excluding Pinyons, who have the hooves to grip onto ledges). In recent years, thanks to proper roadways and lighting, it has become a hot spot for tourist attractions due to it's outdoor activities, the town's atmosphere, and the wondrous festivals hosted during winter months!

Phoebea says:

Fairy lights are my favorite! They add such a warm glow to the bright white snow... I couldn't help but put some up in Sulow Grove as a reminder of home.

Outdoor Activities

Expression of culture and bonding activities are very important to many Siberians! These typically include multi-Willow hobbies, such as ice fishing, sledding, climing, tree decorating, snow-building, and so much more. A good number of these have been turned into competitions hosted throughout the year, bringing together the community for fun and cheers!

Winter Festivals

Winter festivals are the other large piece of Siberian livelihood, as they were started decades ago as a way to pass the time in the desolate winter season. Willows from across Willanova will make their way to participate in various games, hosting large feasts with foods visitors bring in. Sulow Sanctum has begun this tradition as well, for those who cannot make the travel!

Relationship with Other Willows

siberian_mayor_marriage Siberian Willow’s most positive relationship is with Standard Willows. Sulow Grove being closest to Blissful Mountain meant that the first established route up the mountain was between the two civilizations, stregenthing trade relations, community events, and conversation! Not only that, but the marriage and mayorship of Ginger, a Standard from Sulow, and Phoebea, a Siberian who grew up in Blissful, have connected the two communities in a bond similar to the unspoken strength of Sweetbay and Sulow Sanctum! Due to this, many festivals are often shared between both cities, making them more accessible for those who cannot take the journey up to Blissful.

Siberians are open and welcoming to anyone who wishes to take the trip, but otherwise do not have any other tight relationships with other subspecies. However, they also do not have any rocky or tense ones either, as they are regarded to be a good friend to all who need one!

Crystal Caverns Co.

Metals are mined out by the Crystal Caverns Co., which are then used to help reinforce homes, structures, and produce other products. Some furnitures are also made from these metals!

Related Events/Trivia

  • The Nation’s flower is the Snowdrop.
  • A lot of Willanova's mining is done in caverns within these mountains!
  • No major events has happened under the waters of Willanova thus far.
